FCC Testing

The W5YI team of VEs will be present to administer the Technician, General, and Extra Class exams. Exams begin at 9:00am Saturday, August 14, 2021.

You are required to provide either your Social Security Number or your FRN Number (obtained from the FCC) for Form 605 and the exam answer sheets.

Test sessions will be conducted by examiners affiliated with the ARRL-VEC.

A new FCC procedure requires all applicants for amateur radio licenses to obtain an FCC Registration Number (FRN) before showing up for their exam. An FRN will be required as part of the exam team submitting its paperwork to the W5YI VEC. Obviously this impacts applicants for their first licenses, primarily Technician tickets, more than upgrade applicants who already have FRNs. In any case, no applicant should show up without his/her FRN. For those already licensed, your FRN is printed on your license.

Here is an excerpt from the ARRL website (http://www.arrl.org/exam_sessions/search) on this subject:

Exam Candidates: You are REQUIRED to register in the FCC CORES system and receive a FCC Registration Number (FRN) before exam day. For FRN registration information, see item #4: Exam Session Requirements

Candidates could go directly to the FCC CORES User Account and Registration page: https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do
